What is my.encoder?
SmarThumb my.encoder is a unique software which allows you to keep your files safe and protected through industrial strength encryption.
| |
What are the benefits of my.encoder?
SmarThumb my.encoder uses a state-of-the-art encryption algorithm with AES 256-bit key, to ensure that your encrypted files are truly secure.
This advanced algorithm makes it almost impossible for anyone but you to access or retrieve your encrypted files.
| |
What encryption algorithm does my.encoder use?
my.encoder uses a AES 256 bit encryption – which is a FIPS-approved encryption that is also used by the US government.

If I delete the my.encoder program, can I still decrypt my encrypted files?
It is still possible to decrypt your encrypted files. Firstly, you must download the my.encoder program once more and install it. Subsequently,
you must set back the same passphrase that was originally used to encrypt the file.
| |
Can I share my encrypted files with friends?
Yes you may, to do this you must first encrypt the file using the ‘Shared Passphrase’ option. Once that is completed, you may send the encrypted
file to your friend. However, for your friend to decrypt the file, they must first know what the shared passphrase is and secondly have the my.encoder software.
If your friend does not own the my.encoder software, he/she may easily download a trial version from the SmarThumb website. After this, your friend just has
to enter the passphrase and would then be able to decrypt the file.

What type of files can I encrypt with my.encoder?
You may encrypt any type of file with my.encoder.
| |
Can my.encoder handle multiple passphrases?
Yes, my.encoder can handle multiple passphrases. For example, you may choose to have a shared passphrase, that is different from your original passphrase.
The important thing to remember is that you must remember the passphrase that you have used to encrypt a particular file or folder, as you would need the same
passphrase to decrypt the file or folder.

| |
Can I encrypt a file/folder with my.encoder then hide it with my.invisible?
Yes you may.

Yes, the file is still encrypted under Macintosh or Linux. User can only encrypt/decrypt the file under Windows because my.encoder program can only run
in Windows. Once the file is encrypted, no one can view the file under any Operating System unless the user knows the passphrase to decrypt the file.
| |
Can I encrypt programs?
No, you may not. This prevents you from the risk of accidentally encrypting a program.
| |
Can I convert a my.encoder USB version into a my.encoder PC version?
No you may not. You would have to purchase another license key for my.encoder software.
| |
Can I switch between the my.encoder USB version and the my.encoder PC version at will?
No, you may not. These are two distinct versions and you would need to choose which version you want when you first download the software. If you are
buying online, you would need to make this decision when you purchase the software.
| |
What can I do if I lose my.encoder program?
You can purchase another license key for my.encoder and with the same passphrase, you would be able to decrypt your existing encrypted files.

What is the meaning of "Shared Passphrase" in my.encoder?
The Shared Passphrase feature means that you can send an encrypted file (including pictures/videos) to another person. If the other person has my.encoder
software, he can open your encrypted file provided he has your passphrase. When sharing confidential data, you can encrypt using a special passphrase which is
"shared" and is not your usual passphrase. You can then send this Shared Passphrase through a separate email or text messaging.
