What is SmarThumb?
SmarThumb® - My Data, Any Time, Any Place
SmarThumb® is a suite of personal productivity tools contained within an easy to use, plug-and-play, portable flash drive.
With SmarThumb® you can access your email/webmail, create personal notes, organize to-do's and more, from just about any computer
with a USB drive-at home, work, play, even at your clients.
What's more, no software installation is needed to run the SmarThumb® applications-just plug it in and use. |

What kind of device can SmarThumb work with?
SmarThumb® is a suite of portable software which can be downloaded into USB storage devices such as USB Flash Drive, External USB Hard Drive, USB MP3 players, Flash Memory Card.

What operating systems can SmarThumb work on?
SmarThumb® works on Windows® 2000, XP and Windows Vista.
There are 2 options to enable SmarThumb to run on Windows Vista.
Option 1 :
Double click on the Computer icon on Windows Vista Desktop, double click on the USB storage device which has SmarThumb software inside. Right click on Launchpad.exe and click on Run as administrator option.
Option 2 :
Double click on the Computer icon on Windows Vista Desktop, double click on the USB storage device which has SmarThumb software inside. Right click on Launchpad.exe and click on Properties. A Properties window will prompt out, click on Compatibility tab and then tick on the Run this program as an administrator option and click OK button. This will configure the Launchpad.exe to always run as administrator privileges. Double click on the Launchpad.exe. |

What
are the new Vista-Ready versions?
SmarThumb has launched new improved versions for my.mail, my.encoder, my.shredder, my.backup, my.zip and my.eraser. These new versions support Vista, do not require Administrator Right and have zero footprint.
For the new versions, there is also a new launchpad called "SmarThumb Launchpad.exe". For those who upgrade to the new versions,
they will end up with two launchpads. If they are only using the new versions, they can delete the old launchpad (Launchpad.exe). |

Do I need to install software onto the host computer to use the SmarThumb application?
No installation is needed on the host computer. Just plug-in the USB device and run the "Launchpad" program of the USB device to access all the installed SmarThumb applications on the USB device. |

Why do I have problems downloading SmarThumb into my USB storage device?
We have a strict requirement as regards to the USB hardware compatibility in the USB device. You may check the hardware compatibility by downloading our "Checker" tool on the web link as shown below:

If the checker results show "Fail", you would need to find another USB device that has a soft USB serial number. This is to protect the SmarThumb software from piracy. USB devices should have the USB serial number in order to run properly on Windows Operating System.You may download the software installation guide for further information. Click here to download.
For your information, SmarThumb does not work with Smart phone and PDA because these devices are not recognized as USB storage device under Windows Operating System. |

How can I realign the SmarThumb icons on the Launchpad interface?
You can change the Desktop setting by “right-click” on the Windows Desktop. Then go to Properties->Settings->Advanced->DPI Setting: Normal size (96 DPI) |

I have lost my license key. How can I retrieve it?
Please log in to the SmarThumb website. Go to “View Transaction History”. Click the order number link by date purchase to view the license number. |

Can my.zip and my.backup work from other computers without installation to the other computers?
Yes. The compressed or backup file, and restoration destination, is independent from the hardware. |

What is the best action if the USB drive containing SmarThumb applications is infected by virus?
The immediate action to take is not to execute any program from the USB drive which has the SmarThumb software. You may use any antivirus software to perform the cleaning process on the USB drive. In the event the cleaning process wipes out any SmarThumb program files from the drive, you can download the installer again from http://www.smarthumb.com/support/software.html |

How can I uninstall a SmarThumb application?
SmarThumb Launchpad does copy the program into your computer C: drive and it would run from C: drive. It is still "Plug N Play". Our SmarThumb Launchpad did not install the application on the computer C: drive. It merely copies into a temp folder in computer C: drive.
However, if you wish to remove the SmarThumb files from your C: drive, here are the following steps:
1. Open My Computer, double click on the USB drive and browse into the drive folder.
2. Double click on the Program folder.
3. You would just need to delete the SmarThumb folder, please DO NOT delete any other folders under the Program folder. |

What types of email system do my.mail support?
SmarThumb my.mail supports web mail (Yahoo and GMail) and pop email system. Do take note that most localised Yahoo accounts such as yahoo.com.sg and yahoo.com.uk already support pop mail. For yahoo.com, please go to http://mailplus.mail.yahoo.com to subscribe for POP mail access. For web mail settings, please view the respective websites and my.mail help file.
Please note that some companies use Microsoft Exchange or Lotus Notes which may not allow pop email access. |

While sending a mail for the first time using Smarthumb my.mail, the following error was encountered - Error with Connecting Server: Client Handshake failed. Can you please advise?
When you have problems sending your mail through SmarThumb my.mail, it is likely that this may be caused by incorrect account setting, internet connection or ISP security issue.
Different service providers have different ISP security policy setting that may prevent mail from being sent out. You can call your ISP to get the correct mail setting. You can also test your POP3 account settings using
your Outlook Express. The account setting that you are using for Outlook Express will also work for my.mail. |

How can I resolve installation error after installing SmarThumb application onto a USB storage device?
If you encounter such an error, please reinstall SmarThumb application onto your USB drive. After completing the installation, reboot your computer. Plug in the USB drive into the USB port. Open SmarThumb Launchpad and run the application of your choice. |

Can my.zip compress picture (JPEG, BMP etc), video and audio files?
Please note that media files such as picture, video and audio are already in compressed form and the compression rate is limited. |

What can I do if I lose my.encoder program?
You can purchase another my.encoder and with the same passphrase, you would be able to decrypt your existing encrypted files. |

What is the meaning of "Shared Passphrase" in my.encoder
?
The Shared Passphrase feature means that you can send an encrypted file (including pictures/videos) to another person. If the other person has my.encoder software, he can open your encrypted file provided he has your passphrase. When sharing confidential data, you can encrypt using a special passphrase which is "shared" and is not your usual passphrase. You can then send this Shared Passphrase through a separate email or text messaging.

Can I have multiple Passphrases for my.encoder?
Yes, you can have as many Passphrases as you wish. The important thing is that you must remember the Passphrase you have used to encrypt a particular file or folder. You would need the same passphrase to encrypt and decrypt a file or folder. |

Why do I have two launchpads when I download the new Vista-Ready versions?
SmarThumb has launched new Vista-Ready versions for my.mail, my.encoder, my.shredder, my.backup, my.zip and my.eraser. For these new Vista-Ready versions, there is also a new launchpad called "SmarThumb Launchpad.exe".
If you are using only the new Vista-Ready versions, you can delete the old Launchpad (Launchpad.exe). If you have other modules, you would need to maintain the two launchpads for the time being till they are upgraded to the new Vista-Ready versions. |
