What type of email account server does my.mail support?
my.mail can be used for all email account servers that support POP3. This includes Gmail, certain Yahoo account types, Outlook and Outlook Express.
Note: some companies use Microsoft Exchange or Lotus Notes which may not allow pop email access, i.e. my.mail will not be able to access such company email accounts.
| |
Does my.mail support Hotmail?
No, this is because Hotmail does not have a POP3 enabling function.
| |
How do I know if my Yahoo account supports the POP3 feature?
After you have login to your Yahoo account, click on the ‘Setting’ link. If you are unable to find the option ‘enable the POP3 feature’, it means that
your Yahoo account does not support POP3. This is because only certain Yahoo account domains support POP3. For example Yahoo.sg and Yahoo.hk support POP3,
whilst Yahoo.com does not.

Why can't I delete my Gmail messages when I use my.mail?
This is because Gmail does not allow the deletion of email messages via POP3. You have to login into your Gmail account through the Google website
to delete these email messages.

While sending a mail for the first time using SmarThumb® my.mail, the following error
was encountered – ‘Error with Connecting Server: Client Handshake failed’. Can you please advise?
This is because some ISPs (Internet Service Provider) block the SMTP port service (the email sending service which uses SMTP protocol), thus preventing
you from sending emails out. This is for security protection purposes; some hackers use the SMTP port service to attack the email server. so you have to call
the ISP for the ‘allowed’ SMTP mail address and adjust your SMTP details under the appropriate ‘Account Setting’. You can also test your POP3 account settings
using your Outlook Express. The account setting that you are using for Outlook Express will also work for my.mail.

Normally, I am able to receive and send out emails (e.g. at work), but sometimes
I can only receive and download my emails; I am unable to send emails out (e.g. at home). Why is this so?
This is because some ISPs (Internet Service Provider) block the SMTP port service (the email sending service which uses SMTP protocol), thus preventing
you from sending emails out. This is for security protection purposes; some hackers use the SMTP port service to attack the email server. So you have to call
the ISP for the ‘allowed’ SMTP mail address and adjust your SMTP details under the appropriate ‘Account Setting’. You can also test your POP3 account

Does my.mail support Windows 98?
No, my.mail only supports Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Vista.
| |
What is the difference between my.mail and Outlook Express?
The main difference is that my.mail is portable, whilst Outlook Express is not. my.mail has encryption feature whilst Outlook Express does not.
my.mail also has an additional security function by way of the passphrase requirement. Apart from these differences, they are the same. Both servers use
POP3 and SMTP to receive and send emails.

How does my.mail prevent the downloading of junk mail?
my.mail has a ‘filter’ function, in which all email headers can be previewed before the downloading process. Only those emails that are selected
will be downloaded, thus preventing the downloading of junk mail.
| |
What do I do if I have multiple POP3 email accounts?
my.mail allows you to download emails from up to 20 different email accounts. You just have to set up your different POP3 accounts and my.mail will
allocate a separate folder for each POP3 account. When the emails are downloaded, they will be downloaded into their respective email account folder.

If I lose my USB drive or external HDD, would other people be able to use my account to download my emails?
No, this is because in order to access your my.mail account, they would require your passphrase.
| |
If I to lose my USB drive or external HDD, would other people be able to read my email messages?
Other people would be able to read your previously downloaded email messages. They can access the email messages via accessing the my.mail folder listed
in the USB drive or external HDD. BUT this can be prevented as below:
1. Login into my.mail
2. Select those email messages which you want to protect
3. Right click on those email messages
4. Select the ‘Compress and Encrypt’ option
This will result in the selected email messages being compressed and encrypted. Hence, they will not be able to be viewed by anyone who does not possess your passphrase.
| |
Why don’t my.mail automatically encrypt all email messages?
Automatically encrypting all email messages will cause my.mail to operate more slowly as the encryption process takes time. Furthermore, it is not
necessary to encrypt most email messages (e.g. jokes, general emails, etc) as they do not contain ‘important’, private and/or confidential information, and
thus this would be a waste of time.
| |
Can I compress and encrypt individual emails in my.mail?
Yes, you can compress and encrypt individual emails in my.mail. A folder cannot be compressed and encrypted. It has to be individual email.
| |
I have 3 years worth of mail messages, where am I going to store them?
You can store them on your external HDD or USB drives. It is up to you to decide on the storage capacity of the USB/Ext HDD.
| |
What kind of security does my.mail provide?
At the basic level, it is best to use a USB drive* which has a password-protect feature. In order to launch my.mail, your personalised passphrase is
required. This provides a second layer of security. If you require additional protection for your mail, you may encrypt your email messages in my.mail
using the encryption feature; and this is a difficult barrier to overcome.
