  General Enquiry
What is my.zip?

Benefits of my.zip

• compresses files to zip format by up to 10 times the original file size
• decompresses WinZip, WinRar, and Microsoft Cabinet compressed files
• files are zipped to the same location
• no additional files are created
• high-speed compression – very fast
• easy to learn
• easy to use – just a single-click to compress and decompress
• portable – program can be stored on your USB drive, external HDD or computer

How do I use it?

Open up the my.zip explorer page and select a file and click on the “Compress” button. You can also “auto compress” a folder: Open up the my.zip explorer page and tick on the check box on the folder. The existing files inside this folder are not compressed but any new files which you “drag and drop” into this folder will be automatically compressed. For the PC and notebook version, there is also a right-click method. Just select the files/folders to be zipped, right-click and select the ‘Compress…’ option.

Does my.zip support other types of compression formats?

Yes, my.zip supports WinZip (‘.zip’), WinRAR (‘.rar’), and Microsoft Cabinet (‘.cab’) formats, and can be used to decompress files zipped using those formats.

What happens if the recipient of a compressed my.zip file doesn’t have my.zip?

The recipient can still decompress the file using WinZip, WinRar and Microsoft Windows’ Extract Feature (Windows 2000 and later).

Can my zip file be password protected?

Yes, by selecting the ‘Compress with Password’ option.

What type of files can I zip with my.zip?

All files. Please note that most media files such as picture, video and audio are already in compressed form and hence the compression rate is limited.

Can I zip files that are contained in USB drive and external HDD?

Yes.

Is there a limitation on the size of the file/folder that is to be zipped?

No.

Can I zip a multiple number of files and folders at one go?

Yes. Highlight all the files/folders to be zipped and ‘drag and drop’ them into the explorer page or use the right-click function.

Can I rename a file or folder that is compressed with my.zip?

Yes, so long as the extension is not disturbed, i.e. ‘.zip’, etc otherwise the file may be corrupted.

Can I encrypt a file/folder with my.encoder, then zip it with my.zip?

Yes.

Can I zip individual emails in Outlook and Outlook Express?

No, but you can zip the whole folder of emails.
